The University of Oxford in the UK is the oldest English-speaking university in the world. No one knows the date the university was founded, but there was teaching taking place at Oxford from as early as the year 1096.

Today, there are about 20,800 students going to Oxford, with 42% being international students. Times Higher Education has named Oxford the world’s top university on its World University Rankings list every year since 2017.

The University of Oxford is actually made of more than 30 different colleges with their own buildings, student communities, libraries and other facilities.

Many famous people have studied at the University of Oxford, including writers like Lewis Carroll and Oscar Wilde.

In addition to this, other famous Oxford students include Tim Berners-Lee, who invented the World Wide Web, actor Hugh Grant. In addition, British prime ministers like Margaret Thatcher, Tony Blair and Boris Johnson. Emperor Naruhito of Japan also studied history at Merton College, Oxford, between 1983 and 1985.

The University of Oxford doesn’t have a campus, and instead has buildings across the English town it is found in.

The university runs four museums, so you don’t even need to be a student there to learn. For example, you can visit the university’s History of Science Museum, or learn about the natural world at the Oxford University Museum of Natural History.
